CSI EffectWhether it’s the farcical one-liners in CSI: Miami, the cutting-edge forensic technology of CSI: Las Vegas, or the brilliant DNA experts from CSI: New York deciphering unsolvable crimes, one thing is for sure: television viewers continue to be captivated by the mysteries of forensic science. The question now presents itself; how many of these CSI enthusiasts report for jury duty on Monday morning? Read more...

Did you know...?

In a survey of 1,027 jurors in Ann Arbor, Michigan:

36% expected to see fingerprint evidence in every criminal case

Forensic Highlights: What Jurors Expect

In June, July, and August of 2006, 1,027 randomly summoned jurors in Ann Arbor, Michigan completed a written survey pertaining to various types of criminal cases. In addition, jurors were asked questions pertaining to television viewing habits, types of evidence jurors expect to see in a case, and the likelihood of determining guilt of a defendant based on the types of evidence presented.

The potential jurors, who completed the survey prior to any jury selection, were assured that their responses were anonymous and unrelated to their possible selection as a juror. The graph above, published by the National Institute of Justice Journal in March 2008, shows some of the results of this survey.
